what is housing first?
Druglink is working in partnership with Welwyn Hatfield Council, Resolve and Citizens Advice (Hatfield) to address street homelessness through a Housing First initiative. Druglink manage a four bedroom property in Hatfield for individuals who were rough sleepers. They are able to live at the house for 12 months.
Druglink Support Workers help residents learn and develop essential life skills to prepare them for independent living. Citizens Advice staff meet with residents at the property to assist with individual issues. The house is staffed 6 days a week. Alcohol is allowed and drinking is closely monitored in order to stabilize each individual’s consumption.
At the end of their 12 months stay, Welwyn Hatfield Council provide each resident with their own property.
